COUPLES COUNSELING

Couples therapy is different from individual psychotherapy because a relationship is the focus of the therapy. Relationships are a central part of life and good health; and emotional connection is fundamental in experiencing relationships in a fulfilling way. Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples is a well researched and proven method of psychotherapy. This approach focuses on stopping the painful and combative cycles that harm relationships and strengthens the caring bonds people feel for each other. Rebuilding the trust and deepening the understanding each person has of the other allows couples to relate in a more dynamic and satisfying manner.

Common themes in couples therapy are:

One person confronts and one person withdraws and nothing is solved
Inability to say or ask for what is truly wanted or needed from your partner
Changing old habits or cycles that are unhelpful or hurtful
Identifying each other's style of relating
Learning to trust and enjoy your relationship with each other

Periodically I also offer the Hold Me Tight course for couples. Please contact me if you would like more information about the next course series.
