ABOUT MARIE
Psychotherapy is a very personal experience and it is important to know something about your therapist. My theoretical orientation is based in Attachment theory, which is the idea that the way we relate to others and the world is shaped by our experiences of safety and being cared for throughout our lives. This results in our having an underlying sense of what we can expect from the world and others that at times limits our abilities to see alternate possibilities.
I also use Emotionally Focused Therapy in my work with couples and families.
My experience includes working with a wide range of concerns, including depression, , grief and loss, stress, shyness and social anxiety, current and past traumas, teenage angst, addiction and codependency issues, and relationship conflicts. I have also have specific experience working with military personnel and their family members addressing issues that can arise as a result of deployment.
If you have questions about my services, I would be happy to offer you a 20 minute free consultation to help you determine if working with me is the right direction for you at this time.
I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (license #MFC42362), and received my Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from John F. Kennedy University. I have been working in a private practice setting for most of my career as a therapist and currently serve as the clinical director of the Bay Area Psychotherapy Training Institute (BAPTI).
My rate is $110 for 50 minutes and I accept some types of insurance, medi-cal, and victims of crime reimbursement.
For those interested, I can also offer a spiritual perspective to the therapeutic process. I have formally practiced Zen Buddhism and meditation for many years, and welcome the opportunity to use mindfulness practice as a part of the therapy.
